Name/Nickname:
David

Age: 31

Country: Canada

Developer, Asset Creator or are you a bit of both?:

Asset creator.

Full Time, Part Time or Hobby?:

Full time.

How long have you been doing this?:

Started in 2017 - Full Time Since 2019.

What made you become a dev/artist?:

Honestly? The band Nirvana. I got really into Nirvana, which made me pick up a guitar, which made me want to learn how to produce audio, which lead to wanting to make different styles of music, which lead to me to finding film score and ultimately sound design.

Favourite software/tools to use?:

Logic Pro X is my digital audio workspace of choice. I’ve been using it ever since I started professionally. I find it has great MIDI customization, I’m still learning things.

What’s one tip you would give to someone starting out?:

Once the excitement of starting something new fades and the stress of performance starts to become larger, it’s important to remember why you chose this path and continue to bet on yourself. I could say make connections, network, do lots of research about your field and stuff like that (all of which will help), but without the motivation to chase your vision that stress of performance can be overwhelming. So pretty much keep your head high and away from the noise because you never know what good opportunity is around the corner. It’s a long term game.

How do you promote your work (games or assets)?:

I mainly promote my assets by networking on Linked In and Steam.

What project are you working on now?:

I always have multiple asset projects in the works. I think currently I am working on archery sounds as well as car garage sound effects. I also work on custom audio projects for indie games. I can’t say the name of it, but it’s a narrative game about unlocking memories and I was brought in to take care of all the sound effects.

And finally, favourite game ever & why?:

Its between Final Fantasy 8 (that gun blade was cool) and The Last of Us Part 1 (I beat it on every difficulty). I really enjoy the turn based RPG gameplay of final fantasy, but the 8th one really sticks out to me because it was the first one that I played as a kid. The Last of Us combined some of my favourite gameplay elements. I do enjoy shooting games, but not really big into FPS, more of 3rd person like Rachet and Clank or something. Also scavenging and looking for loot to survive to the next part was fun, sometimes you got lucky with loot, others you had to make your supplies last.
